Museums and Heritage - case studies

Below are a selection of Arts Award case studies from museums. For more case studies from museums, heritage and other settings, head to the adviser hub to search the full list.

You can also find stories from young people on Arts Award Voice, our online magazine for young people aged 13 to 25. You can search for case studies, and the young people you're working with can also post their own stories to share.

  • Bursledon Brickworks Friday Night Project involved a group of young people with neurological problems exploring the only remaining steam driven brickworks in England through photography and model making. The group worked towards Arts Award Bronze.

  • Fitzwilliam Museum The University of Cambridge Museums is a partnership of eight museums who are committed to working with children and young people and deliver an Arts Award programme from Discover to Gold.

  • Ancient House Museum of Thetford Life is a local museum housed in a late 15th Century timber framed building, exhibiting collections related to the history of Thetford and the Brecks. In 2013 Ancient House Museum worked with children from two local schools on a diversity project which aimed to promote multi-cultural understanding. The children visited the museum for a Discover in a Day programme, exploring the story of the Duleep Singh Family.

  • The Heritage Schools programme, delivered by Historic England, helps children develop an understanding of their local heritage.  This lovely film, supported by Curious Minds, of St Richard's RC Primary School in Manchester shows how using the arts brings history alive - and how easy it is to include Arts Award Discover as an integral part of a heritage project.
