Waltham Forest recognises success of Arts Award in 20 year cultural strategy

Waltham Forest has launched its 20 year culture strategy ‘Taking Our Place in London’ which celebrates Waltham Forest’s vibrancy, diversity and unique contribution to life in the capital. It also sets Waltham Forest Council, its partners and the local creative community some challenging objectives for strengthening and expanding cultural life in the borough.

One of the ambitions outlined in the strategy is Raising the bar: aspiring to excellence in all that we do with objectives to:

  • Develop partnerships with regional, national and international institutions in order to provide world-class cultural programming within the borough.
  • Strengthen the local arts, sports and leisure sectors.
  • Provide people with an opportunity to take part in a range of high quality activities at varying levels.

The Arts Award programme at Chingford Foundation School is included as a case study in the cultural strategy highlighting how successful their Arts Award activities have been. It is clear that Arts Award is valued not just by students and staff of the school but community wide. Arts Award supports young people to develop as artists and arts leaders and we are delighted that it has been recognised as a key programme for young people in the Borough.
