Since January a group of unemployed teenagers have been learning broadcasting skills from award winning film production and education company, Chocolate Films.
Based at The Stephen Lawrence Centre, a group of ten 16-18 year olds will be streaming their own television show live on the internet for the first time this week. Keen to voice their own opinions, the teenagers will start the TV show, entitled Live From Stephen Lawrence by interviewing Sergeant Ian McParland, Head of the Metropolitan’s specialist Status Dog Unit. As we see on the streets and read in the newspapers, owning dangerous dogs is a status symbol currently popular with youths and often associated with gangs. Some of our teen broadcasters have recently been in trouble with the police so this show will provide the group with a unique opportunity to ask the police the questions about an issue that affects them.
Chocolate Films has partnered with The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust and been funded by the Host Boroughs Unit to offer this innovative two month broadcast training course. It also provides the opportunity for young people taking part to gain an Arts Award qualification.
The first live streaming will take place on Tuesday 9 March 2010 at 3.30pm on http://www.stickam.com/chocolatefilms
