Congratulations to the first 1000 young people to have achieved Arts Awards and to the advisers that have supported them!
To celebrate this milestone in Arts Award history, Minister for Culture David Lammy presented the 1000th award to Sophie Skyring, who has achieved her Silver award in writing and performance work at the Garage creative industries centre, Norwich.
Sophie’s challenge was to learn about different styles of creative writing, particularly poetry. Part of her progress was overcoming her shyness and fear of public speaking, and she has now read her poems to a number of different audiences, from peers to adults, and run a story-telling project in infant schools.
Five groups represented the first 1000 Arts Awards at a lively celebration - Ruff Diamond youth dance company from Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea; Holy Trinity Media Arts College, Birmingham; The Stables Project, York; IMPACT, Liverpool; and Fusion - Ministry of Performance from The Garage, Norwich.
Huge thanks to the young people who came down to London and to all those centres who sent in portfolios for our exhibition.
