Supporting young arts leaders through the Big Draw

Every October over 1000 UK venues join together to celebrate drawing as a public activity as well as a private passion. This programme of events spanning the arts and sciences, demonstrates that drawing is the perfect medium for learning, observation, self-expression and fun.

Arts Award is proud to sponsor the Arts Award Prize which aims to celebrate the leadership role that young people can take in planning, organsiing and running a Big Draw event!

Get involved

Register now
Everyone, from individual artists to national museums – is invited to organise events on Big Draw Day (9 October), or throughout the month. Visit www.campaignfordrawing.org/bigdraw

In May, all registered organisers will receive a free DVD packed with inspiring case studies. In the meantime, you will find resources online to help plan your event here

Pick your Theme and Win an Award
This year’s theme is Make your Mark on the Future! Possible subjects include changing places, architecture, habitats and habitation, fashion, climate change, ecology and re-cycling. If none appeals, just select your own. All kinds of mark making (with meaning!) are valid – from painting to animation.

By documenting your event you could win one of thirteen Barbara Whatmore Charitable Trust Awards (worth up to £750 each) for outstanding programmes – from trailblazers to imaginative community projects. Additionally, the best event organised by young people receives the Arts Award prize; the most engaging event in a gallery, museum or heritage site for 12-24 year olds wins the £1000 NADFAS Award. The Society of Architectural Illustration Award goes to the project which explores urban or rural buildings most creatively.

More on the Arts Award Prize
The Arts Award Prize celebrates Big Draw projects where young people (11-25) play a leadership role in planning, developing and or running Big Draw activities. The organisation that supports the winning project will receive ‘Arts Award vouchers’ to the value of £500, which can be put towards Arts Award training, materials, products or assessment fees.

To enter the Arts Award Prize you will need to submit documentation of your event using the Drawing Inspiration Awards application form which will be available via the Campaign for Drawing website after the event. In addition to winning Arts Award vouchers your organisation and event will be featured in the 2010 Drawing Inspiration book.
