Artists including Graham Norton, Siobhan Davies, Benjamin Zephaniah, Richard E Grant and John Hegley have sent messages of support to young people encouraging involvement and creativity in the arts.  They have backed the new Arts Award scheme which seeks to recognise young artists and young arts leaders.

Graham Norton: "Whatever your artistic interests or talents, it's really important that you make the most of any opportunity that gives you the chance to learn, develop and expand your creativity.  That's why I'm really pleased to support the young people's Arts Award for all the encouragement and recognition it gives to those involved.  Best wishes and good luck!"

Richard E Grant: "No-one believed it was possible to become a professional actor where I grew up.  The more people mocked and knocked me for wanting to do so, the more determined I became to prove them wrong...Then I got the lead role in 'Withnail and I' which changed my life.  Never give up!"
